Abstract
Corruption has become a phenomenon and a concern to the international community that is to be confronted by developing anti-corruption policies, especially amidst the Covid-19 crisis, the consequences of which for investment are ongoing and require more robust measures against transnational crimes and for preserving resources from illicit exploitation, protecting the States’ economies from corruption and building more effective justice systems.
International and regional governmental organizations responded to the phenomenon of corruption by ratifying several anti-corruption conventions in support of the efforts exerted by governments in the field of anti-corruption. The States parties to such conventions have emphasized their significance as effective mechanisms that strengthen good governance, mitigate corruption risks and recognize the importance of international cooperation and the recovery of stolen assets.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation placed emphasis on promoting cooperation against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, organized crimes, illegal drug trafficking, corruption, money laundering and human trafficking by adopting Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation and the legal framework thereof, with a view to exchanging information and investigations among law enforcement agencies efficiently and expeditiously in order to facilitate the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of offenders, contributing to the recovery and return of stolen assets, as well as to exchanging mutual technical assistance and trainings.
In conclusion, a set of findings and recommendations are reached and presented for national law enforcement agencies and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
